Oradea is a town located in northwestern Romania. Only eight miles from Romania’s border with Hungary, Oradea boasts an estimated population of 230,000 people.  A city rich with history, education, and culture, it was voted by Reader’s Digest in 2014 as being “The most beautiful city in Romania”. Offering various year-round festivals, incredible architecture, and prominent theaters, the city is well known for tourism. With the fall of the USSR, Oradea, along with the rest of Romania, looked to rebuild a sense of national and local identity and return to its rich heritage of artistry and inventiveness. This effort has been the primary catalyst for a sort of “renaissance” within the nation. Also located in Oradea is Salem Christian Center (In Romanian: Centrul Crestin Salem). This will be the church that both of us will be ministering in starting in September! Salem Christian Center is currently pastored by Ted and Mona Ciucui. Passionate about hosting the presence of God in their church, they seek to attract the hurt, the rejected, and the youth of Oradea. The church was planted by Ted’s father, Ted Sr,  and since its inception, the church has chosen to be nondenominational and has encouraged a “free” form of worship (raising and clapping hands) compared to traditional worship forms that are widely practiced within Romania’s Orthodox heritage. Salem Christian Centers has maintained a commitment to facilitate unity with other churches and serve families in Oradea in multiple ways, and we are so excited to join them!
